Well I think that it is about time to update my blog, and this is the first time in almost three weeks that I have had a chance to sit down and write a little something. Well Sophia Rose Hoeme arrived on Monday September 8, 2008 at 7:19 pm. In fact it was the day right after my first blog...kinda crazy !!! It was a long delivery. I started with contractions about 3 am on Sunday night, and since I wasn't sure what exactly they were, so I called mom and asked her what she thought. Good old Mary said that she was almost sure that Sophia was ready to make her appearance. By 4 am I thought that it was a good idea to wake Joshua up and have him start timing the contractions. The were about 8 minutes apart. I need to take a bath before the big event, but that made things go way too fast. My contractions went from 8 minutes apart to 2 minutes apart. So we were off to Scott Community Hospital, and checked into my room by 7. When I got to the hospital I was already dilated to a 3. This made me proud, the entire time before her delivery I was worried about the amount of pain that I would be in. And for anyone who knows me I am not good with pain. But to tell you the truth it wasn't that bad, I would say almost tolerable. As the morning continued I progressed and the time came to get an epidurral . After that I felt like I was on cloud nine. By 3 pm I was complete and ready to start pushing. I pushed for about 2 hours and then Spohia decided that she wasn't going to come natural, so we were off to the operating room. Finally at 7:19 Sophia Rose was born. At first we thought that Sophia and Joshua were going to make a trip to Wichita because Sophia's respiration rate were too high, but after she had spent some time with mom she started to calm down.
It is about time
Sophia and I spent 4 days in the hospital. Not only did mom need some time to recover from the labor, but Sophia also had some jaundice and needed to spend time in the tanning bed. We had lots of visitors while we were in the hospital, but it was sure nice to get home on Thursday evening. Grandma and Grandpa Herzog finally arrived on Thursday afternoon to help get us settled in at home.
